Andy Dunn—Burn Rate Author on Bringing His Mental Health Struggle Out of the Shadows

Andy Dunn co-founded Bonobos, a revolutionary menswear ecommerce brand. But, behind the scenes, he was struggling with bipolar disorder. “Here’s the real story of what was going on, which I think was a heckuva lot more interesting than selling pants on the internet,” he says in a new episode of The Mentor Files

In 2016, Andy says he hit an all-time low that caused him to confront his diagnosis head-on. At the time, his sister, Monica, was one of the few people who knew what was really going on. Now, in this new episode, the siblings reflect on their shared history and their unique perspectives as Andy struggled.

Andy shares a detailed look at the highs and lows of being an entrepreneur with a mental health disorder in his memoir, Burn Rate: Launching a Startup and Losing My Mind. He hopes his story will help destigmatize similar challenges for others. As he tells Monica, “People connect so much more to our vulnerability than they do our strength.”

Listen in as Monica and Andy pull back the curtain on the challenges that coincided with his entrepreneurial journey.

"The entrepreneurial journey is a roller coaster and, in my case, probably amplified into the highs and lows by an underlying mental health condition." - Andy Dunn
